Did you last minute sign-up to host a holiday celebration? Us too. These 6 last minute party ideas will make your shindig stress-free and a source of joy for all your favorite people. Take a peek below and let us know if you have any other holiday party tips and tricks this season.
1. Batch Out Cocktails
Craft cocktails in bulk for party goers. Of course this at the top of our last minute party ideas. Some of our favorite batched cocktail recipes can be served from a punch bowl or large drink dispenser.
Hibiscus Prickly Pear Batch Cocktail
- 25 oz Thatcher’s Organic Small Batch Vodka
- 6 oz Thatcher’s Organic Prickly Pear Liqueur
- 10 large limes, juiced
- 4 oz agave nectar
- 20 oz hibiscus tea concentrate
- Lime wheels, garnish
Hibiscus tea concentrate: Boil water, add dried hibiscus tea and agave nectar to a measuring cup. Steep for 10 minutes, stirring frequently to incorporate the hibiscus. Stir all ingredients together and serve over ice. If desired, garnish with a lime wheel.
2. Go Bold with Color
There’s no need for a monochromatic color scheme at holiday parties. Go bold and bright instead. Mis-match plates, glasses, and decor with pinks, yellows, blues, and greens. A set of Estelle Colored Glasses from Anthropologie is festive, but can be also used anytime of year.
3. Have the Party Away from Home
If you’re worried about having your home “guest ready,” eliminate stress by hosting at a home away from home! Search Airbnb for an off-season cottage or cabin that comes at a reasonable price.
4. Ask Guests for Help
Party etiquette is different if the party invite goes out that morning. If you’re hosting a last minute get together, ask guests for help. Invite them to bring snacks or drinks and send out a Spotify link to add their favorite songs. Let the informality of a last minute party work to your advantage.
5. Utilize the Party Platter
Hop over to your local market and grab a party platter filled with snacks. Choose Doordash or Ubereats if you’re really pressed for time. Remember, even adults love a pizza party.
Drink Your Dessert
Around here, we prefer to drink our dessert anyway. Craft this gingerbread cocktail that will have everyone wanting seconds.
Ginger All The Way
- 1.5 oz Thatcher’s Organic Small Batch Vodka
- 1.5 oz Irish cream liqueur
- 1.5 oz homemade gingersnap syrup (see recipe below)
- White chocolate, garnish
Rim a coupe glass with white chocolate and set aside. In a cocktail shaker with ice, add Thatcher’s Organic Small Batch Vodka, Irish cream liqueur, and gingersnap syrup. Shake until combined. Strain mixture into a chilled coupe glass.
Homemade Gingersnap Syrup
- ½ c water
- ½ c brown sugar
- 4 tbsp molasses
- 3 tbsp chopped ginger
- 1 tbsp cinnamon
- 1 tsp clove
- 1 tsp nutmeg
In a saucepan over medium-high heat add all ingredients and stir until the sugar has dissolved. Strain through a fine mesh sieve and store in an airtight container.
6. Keep Entertainment Simple
If there’s food, booze, and friends, the entertainment will probably take care of itself. But if you want this last minute party to be a true success, give people options. Put out board games or download digital party games like those from Jackbox. You can even pull off karaoke night by putting on Youtube or using Spotify’s karaoke feature.
